My family went camping every summer when I was growing up. We did the tent, Coleman stove, lanterns, pit toilets, and everything. I loved it.
However, somewhere along the way, as I got older, I became a staunch city girl. So when vacation plans were made for our trip to California this year and they included taking everyone camping, I wasn’t what you would call “overjoyed.” I knew my kids would love it, and I recognized there would be a few aspects of it that I could appreciate, but that’s about it.
A-camping-we-did-go, nonetheless, and although I never did come to love the bugs and having to trek through the dark to use the bathroom in the middle of the night (keeping watch for bears, of course), I did have a really good time.
Here are ten reasons why even a city girl can enjoy camping:
1. The sheer beauty of mountain surroundings

2. Food cooked out in the open just seems to taste better
3. The chance to unplug

4. Campfire time

5. Family memories are created

6. The fun of doing even normal things differently

7. Watching kids be kids (even if they happen to be teenagers)

8. Fascinating discoveries

9. Learning about the wildlife (I’m trying to be positive about this one)

10. Challenging myself to do things outside of normal

Have you ever been camping? Did you enjoy it?
(I’m linking up with Angie at Many Little Blessings today for Top Ten Tuesday)
We used to go camping when I was little, but then I hadn’t camped since then until just a couple of years ago when I decided on a whim that we should go camping. It was definitely a new experience for us, but before the weekend was even done, the kids were asking when we could do it again. 🙂
My oldest decided that she absolutely loves camping and would do it all the time if she could! It is such a great way to bond as a family and enjoy creation without distraction from technology! 🙂

Lovely. This almost makes me want to go camping again…
I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed it! It really is a good way to spend quality family time without the distractions of everyday life!

I am not much of a camper until I get there. My husband was made to camp 24 hours a day. He loves the tent (although he has added a air mattress the last few years). He loves the outdoor cooking, I do too especially when I don’t have to do anything. The kids love camping just as much even if they have to give up technology. Over all it makes great memories had by all.
We definitely have to use the air mattresses now too! My husband didn’t get to go with us this time (it was my parents, my sister and her kids, and my two) but he loves it as well.

Not sure if I’m commenting twice or not… Silly computer hiccups. Anyway, great post! My family loves camping!! But we’re RVers. Does that count???
It only came through once. 🙂 Hmm…RV camping…not sure if that counts as “real” camping or not. 😉 Actually, I would love one of those pop-up tent campers. At least it would get me up off the ground a little. Thanks for stopping by today!
Wow! I’ve been camping twice (if you don’t count back yards)–once with friends, and that was a blast because I had little responsibility at that time, and once as a child with my own family–in June, in Northern Ontario (it froze, and we nearly did).
So needless to say, camping is not really really high on my list of wanna-does.
