For Love of Words

Book Review–Here Burns My Candle by Liz Curtis Higgs

Reviews

Liz Curtis Higgs knows how to tell a good, nae, great story. She can also make this reader read with a Scottish accent because of the authenticity of the dialogue in her books!

Higgs’ newest Scottish tale, reminiscent of Thorn In My Heart  and Fair Is The Rose, is loosely based on the biblical story of Ruth. This particular work is described with these words: “A timely story of love and betrayal, loss and redemption, flickering against the vivid backdrop of eighteenth-century Scotland, Here Burns My Candle illumines the dark side of human nature, even as hope, the brightest of tapers, lights the way home.”

I found this book hard to put down. The characters are rich in depth, the setting and times excellently researched and vividly portrayed, and the story itself quite compelling. I expected much from this new series by Liz Curtis Higgs, and I was not disappointed. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series, Mine Is The Night.

(I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.)
