If our homeschool walls could talk…
They would tell you that even though I’ve been teaching my kids at home for 8 years, I still feel like I don’t know what I’m doing way too often! They would let you in on the secret that I’ve changed curriculum almost as many times as we’ve moved to a new year. They would whisper, “She still doesn’t fully understand how her girls learn best. Shhh…” Oh, and I’m fairly certain they would make sure you know that I constantly struggle with time management and distractions.
But hopefully they would also remember to tell you that even during the most frustrating of days, I know that homeschooling our children is the best choice for our family. That my husband and I have learned right along with our kids. That we have loved the flexibility of making our own schedule and learning in a wide variety of ways.
Lastly, they would probably want you to know that we’re adding to our student body this year! We have a friend who will be joining us–another 8th grader along with my oldest. (I talked about what curriculum we’ll be using THIS year over here.) We are all excited about this new development!
So how about you? What would your walls say?
This post was written to go along with a group of homeschool moms who wanted to be open about their homeschooling journey. If you have some time, enjoy visiting these awesome ladies!

Oh, I remember the days. . .there were good days and hard days and I would do those 14 years all over again. I’m not sure what my walls would say. . .? Maybe that’s a good thing? 🙂
Yep, we have good days and hard days too, and I know they are all flying by so fast!
Ditto!!! I change my curriculum probably way to much..But in the end I realize if something isn’t working then it’s time to find something new. Another reason to homeschool!!
Exactly! That flexibility is such a huge blessing!
My wall are probably sighing. But then again, we have moved so much in the past 6 years that none of my walls have been around long wnough to get a good grasp ;o)
You’re so funny! I admire you for what you’re doing with your kids while on the mission field! Does your oldest start high school this year or next?
I’ve often thought that as soon as I get it all figured out, my daughter will be graduating. 🙂
A new student? What a labor of love. To homeschool someone else’s child — that’s right up there.
What’s fun is that she is so excited and motivated about school this year! I’m hoping her attitude towards it will seriously infect my kids (and me!) : )
We have changed curricula many times over the last few years. I am really excited about the materials that we will be using this year.
That is so fun that your 8th grader will have a friend to go through the year. Have fun with My Father’s World.
Blessings

You are definitely not alone! I think most of us could write a post like this!
I think I could write a post like this too. What has amazed me is how far we’ve come! Most of the early years of blogging, I blogged about my frustrations and difficulties. ( I saw that when I was looking back through entries for some dates.) Now it seems I blog very little about homeschooling. Sure we have good days and bad days, but on the whole, it goes well.
Much to be thankful for!
Great post! I’m a class curricula switcher… I thought I was set for this year and through research for my book I’ve been finding tons of new and cool stuff!
Congratulations on your new addition; that should be fun!
I struggle with much of the same stuff you mentioned. I’m glad you reminded me, though, that I always feel that homeschooling my daughter is the best decision. We really should keep that in mind. 🙂
