For Love of Words

It’s That Time Again

3in30 Challenge

Time for new 3in30 goals, that is!

I’ve struggled this time around to come up with ideas. Not sure why. However, I have pushed through and decided on my three.

Goal #1

Say at least 3 positive things a day about my husband, TO HIM, and find ways each day to thank him for what he does for our family.

Yes, I kinda stole this from Aurie, but not really, because I asked her permission first. Of course, being the kind and generous person that she is, she said yes!

I have slipped into some pretty negative ways of talking to my husband, and that needs to change–ASAP. (I’m an Army wife, I have to throw in an acronym once in a while.)

Goal #2

When I tell my children to do something, only say it once!

Do you sense of pattern of bad habits revolving around my spoken words? I DO!! This conversation happened just today:

  • Me: “E., come eat your sandwich, we have to leave pretty soon.”
  • E: “Ok, Mom!”
  • Me, 10 minutes later: “E. you’ll have to wrap your sandwich up and take it with you because we are leaving right now.”
  • E: “But Mom! You didn’t tell me!”
  • Me: “Yes, I did. You even responded.”
  • E: “Yeah, but you didn’t say it again and again so that I would remember to do it!”

Oh.My! I have been treating my children as imbeciles who need to be told multiple times before doing something.

So, my plan is to RE-TRAIN ALL of us. I will tell them something once. I will make sure they respond so I know they have heard and understand. I will also need to tell them the consequences of not obeying. Then I will not repeat it! If they miss out, get in trouble, etc., hopefully that will teach them to do what they are told after only hearing it once. I know, I know, this is something I should have been working on since they were TWO! Why didn’t I?! (Well, I sort of know that answer. I’m a softie who gives too many chances and grace rather than punishment. There’s good and bad in that, I think.)

Goal #3

Get my proofreading/editing business website up and running and start promoting the business.

I have a name for my business and a domain name for the website. Now I need to write the website pages, figure out the site design that I want, and get the word out! (By the way, the name is “For Love of Words.” There’s your sneak peek.)

This might be a tough month…

Great goals! I appreciate your desire to stop repeating yourself. I should work on that myself…
