It’s the Curriculum Post!

Homeschooling

Not Back to School Blog Hop

I realize many families have already started school, or will start this week. Not us. Not yet. Good thing too, because I’m not ready.

But, I did get a little excited as I pulled all of our stuff out of the large bin I’ve had it in since we purchased it at the Midwest Homeschool Convention. (Whew, that was a convoluted sentence! Sorry.)

We’re doing something totally different this year. We’ve pretty much stuck with textbooks/workbooks for most of our years, and I came to the conclusion this past spring that I really did not want to do the same thing again.

Enter My Father’s World! We are going to dive into Exploring Countries and Cultures. As I pulled books out today, there was already oohing and ahhing over what they saw! That’s a really good thing, in my mind.

With that as our core, here are the other things I added:

For my 8th grader

*Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology

*Language Lessons for the Secondary Child

*Math-U-See’s Algebra 1

*Crispin: The Cross of Lead Book and Study Guide by Progeny Press

Plus, we’ll be doing a few co-op classes this year, but I’m not yet sure what those will be. I did hear that there might be a Health class. Also, she’s doing dance and voice lessons and regular theater rehearsals and productions.

For my 5th grader

*Language Lessons for the Elementary Child

*Horizons Math

*Redwall Book and Study Guide by Progeny Press

*A Reason for Spelling

She will be participating in the co-op classes, and will be continuing in tae kwon do. (Side note–she tests for her black belt on September 1st!)

The other difference for this year is that we will be adding a student to our homeschool! I have a friend whose daughter will be joining us. She is also an 8th grader, and will fit right into what we’re planning on doing. It’s one of those God-things.

YAY for you! We are going on year 2 with MFW and love it! I just ordered our curriculum this past week and should finish getting it all this week. Funny because I was wondering when the heart of the matter blog hop would be:)

I’m not ready yet either. but together we will get there.

I want to savor a little more of summer first.

    How about you?

Sounds like a good plan you have!

Hooray for you! I”m thinking about school, but technically still trying to finish this past year–since I count swimming, and Belle is doing her second week this week.
When are you planning to start? I’m debating about sometime next week (not Monday, I don’t think).
We’re still doing Sonlight and still loving it.

I’ve only known people to use MFW for K or 1st grade. I’ll be interested to see how you like it! It’s good they are excited about it!

Has your friend’s daughter ever been homeschooled or is she being pulled out of public school? What a great thing for her to be able to join you!
