Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!
Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.
You turn people back to dust, saying, ‘Return to dust, you mortals!’
For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours.
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.
Psalm 90:1-4, 12
As we’ve started this school year, several facts have impressed upon us the reality of the passage of time: we have an 8th grader, a high school junior who is driving, I’ve had health issues, my parents celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary, and we’ve been in Texas for almost a year and a half.
This passage came to mind yesterday, after Ron and I had been talking about being amazed at those facts above. The verses are comforting and challenging at the same time. It is comforting to know God is timeless and our safe home, and challenging to be reminded to live our days intentionally because they are short.
God, give us a right perspective of our time here on earth so we might live each and every day with wisdom and purpose.
