The first Monday Meditation of October! Somewhat hard to believe we’re there already. But I love fall, so I’m not sad at all to say goodbye to summer.
I mentioned last Monday that I’ve been going through the Abiding Fruit study for HelloMornings. I have enjoyed the study so much I would again like to share part of the passage we were to dig into this past week. It comes out of the John 15 passage that is focused on “abiding.”
“I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.”
The world tells us we must be productive by working hard, being organized, meeting goals…a work ethic that unfortunately transfers to our spiritual lives as well.
Jesus tells us our lives will be productive when we spend time with him, being still, staying “home” in his words, understanding that he is the one who brings the harvest.
A very different approach to productivity, is it not?
I agree 150%! I posted last night about what has been happening in my life since I have obeyed God’s call for me. It is really overwhelming what He has done for us!

What a great meditation! Talk about conflicting ideals – I’ve never looked at the verse in this way. Thanks for the thoughts 🙂
