I know it’s so familiar. I know many of you have been able to quote it since childhood.
My hope is that you will read it with fresh eyes today and be comforted and encouraged in whatever situation you find yourself.
“The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.
You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23 (NLT)
If you can recall a time in your life when this psalm was of comfort to you, please share in the comments. If you noticed something different, reading it through this time, would you share that with us? Your stories and thoughts are encouraging for me and others!
I love this Psalm. I used to think it was only used at funerals, but during my OT Lit course I re-read it and now I love it! The words are so soothing and clear….a feast is prepared, a drink is poured, rest is promised. Ahh….
