For Love of Words

Monday Meditation

Monday Meditation

3 Dec

I have a lovely friend who writes a yearly advent devotional and encourages her online community to take part in The Advent Project. I’m participating this year, and have already been blessed by the Scripture readings, devotional writings, and thought-provoking questions.

I thought for today’s meditation I would share the Scripture and my journal notes from the project.

“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His ever expanding government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the LORD Almighty will guarantee this!”

Isaiah 9:6-7 (NLT)

What caught my attention this time as I read through Isaiah’s words were the “to us” phrases. It wasn’t just that Jesus was born on earth–it’s that he was born TO US…He was given TO US. He was given. He was our gift directly from God.

Our Father’s passionate commitment TO US will make sure that everything will be done as it should and that Jesus will be everything that we need.

Savior–the one who was given TO US to be our true King, Guide, Protector, Love, and Peace.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the Advent Project this year Lisa! I love your thoughts on the text as well. Emphasizing TO US is something we often forget. We know the savior come for us but we don’t really realize it’s FOR US! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and my link. I hope you had a wonderful day!

What a wonderful reflection. Christ truly is the most perfect gift ever given and Advent is the perfect time to reflect, remember and rejoice! 🙂

Amen! Isn’t it interesting how you can read the same verses every year and get something different out of them each time?! I love how Scripture works that way.
