I really meant to get this post out much earlier today. But, I started reading to my kids before school, and we were near the end of our book and none of us wanted to stop. SO, I ended up reading all morning and then we did some school book work after lunch and now it’s 3pm! Can’t say that I’m too awfully sad about it, though.
In my Bible reading this morning, I came across this little phrase in Acts 19: “Curiosity about Paul developed into reverence for the Master Jesus.” (The Message) Wow! What a powerfully loaded statement! My first thought was, “How many people have come to a reverence for Jesus because of how I’ve lived in front of them?”
How do we live in such a way that curious onlookers would be drawn to Jesus? That reminds me of another verse. Philippians 2:14-16a (NIV) says, “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life…” Shine like stars…I like that image. But when is it that we shine? I think it is when we live out God’s word in front of people. Living differently from the rest of the world can cause some curiosity in others!
Just some thoughts for today. Happy Monday!
Great thoughts my friend!!!
What a convicting thought! I have been thinking lately about whether or not I am drawing my children to the Lord through both my words and my actions. More than anything, I want them to grow a relationship w/the Lord.
Lisa,
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I enjoyed your meditation today. I've been reading a book that contends that we have light inside us from Jesus and that is a tool to use in our lives. When I am in a bad mood (think being cut off in traffic!) it helps me to think of that light within me and it shines on those dark, negative thoughts and burns them away. Can you tell I'm a very visual person?! Have a lovely evening!
Barbara
P.S. I love those days when we can just read and read and read! Kudos to you for taking the time and the opportunity to do that…your kids will remember those times fondly!!
I think your right lisa. We let our light shine when we choose to live differently and my, what a hard thing to do. But I don't think He said it would be easy. Great Post.
