“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me–watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (The Message)
This passage was part of my daily reading today. (I know many people have issues with The Message Bible and its contemporary language, and I know it is not a good study Bible, but I’ve enjoyed reading through it this year for my daily reading. )
As I read this, I felt myself breathe in the fresh air of these freeing words of Jesus. Do you need a real rest? Do you want to recover real life? Do you want to live freely and lightly?
The world tells us that we need to take control of our own lives and live whatever way we feel like in order to truly be happy.
Jesus asks us to spend time with him, learn from him in order to really live. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? So why is it that we struggle (or at least I do) to do that? Why is it that everything else gets in the way of that? Why do we set that aside and let the urgent crowd out the important?
Just some questions to ponder this Monday. May this week be one that you are able to “keep company” with Him and “learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”
