Since I am doing this 31 Days series, my Thankful Thursday posts this month will be focused on what I have come to enjoy about the military life as an Army spouse.
I understand that I’m probably in a “honeymoon” phase of active duty military life, and I’m guessing I could get an earful from those who have been in for many years. There’s even issues we’ve run into since our recent move which are a mite frustrating, but…
In the short time I’ve been immersed in active duty life, I have come to appreciate the sense of community I’ve experienced. There’s something comforting about being around a group of people who are all “in the same boat…or tank…or plane.” π
There is a sense of instant camaraderie when you have common things to talk about upon meeting other military wives–places you’ve lived, Army moves (and movers!), housing, settling in, adjustment issues, etc.

(at PWOC’s tailgate party celebrating Chaplains)
I’ve also met several other homeschoolers here, which has been fun. Add in those women who are Chaplain’s wives AND homeschool, and you’ve got instant connections!
My girls have made good friends in the short time we’ve been here. Military kids know they need to make friends quickly, or they may lose their chance. That’s been a huge benefit for us!

All in all, these connections, and that sense of community, have made this huge change for our family bearable–and even enjoyable.
Being a military spouse IS amazing isn’t it? It really is a blessed way of life. One thing that you didn’t mention, probably because this is the beginning of the active duty part for you both, that I have been thankful for over the years is the feeling that I am part of something big, so much bigger than myself. This becomes more evident when family separation and hard duty comes about…and the moving which you mentioned. But I am very thankful for the difficult things too. It’s not that I like them, in fact, I hate them. But I like that it gives me a way to be used for a greater purpose in my life- for my country. And I love being part of that huge endeavor. God Bless you Lisa! We couldn’t do it without our Chaplains and their families!
Funny you should mention that–that was going to be the focus of next Thursday’s Thankful post! You beat me to it. π You’re so right, and I have already sensed that, even in the short time I’ve been in. My husband, because he was active duty once before, has an even greater understanding of that. Please thank your husband from us, for his service–and may God bless your family as you serve with him.

Thank you for yours! I will tell him:) Praying for you guys and all our amazing Chaplains.
Your words are so true! And we even talked about military friendships in the ladies’ Sunday Morning Life Group last week. I’m glad you’ve been able to connect with people since you’ve arrived!
Thanks! I’m very thankful for the people we’ve met so far!
Hey, don’t let that newness wear off! It is exciting, it is an adventure, and there are many blessings to that lifestyle! Sure there are bad days, but we can’t focus on them or they wear us down to harboring sin in our hearts. Be joyful and glad for where God has placed you.
I am so thankful that you are settled in and have found community!! That is key to this life. We have lived places where that didn’t exist and it was a desert time. I can’t wait to see where God takes you next!! Maybe closer to our next base… that would be great!!
Thank you for these words. I so appreciate you. And about your next duty station…I read your news, and we should talk! π
I’ve heard about the sense of community in the military, and it sounds like a wonderful thing, especially when you move.
Yes, it has been a really good thing for us–especially our kids–since this move was so difficult for them at first. Thanks for stopping by today!
I can’t tell you how happy this post makes me!!
You prayed us through many days of transition, and I am so very grateful for YOU! π
