Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

3 Feb

It’s that day of the week again! There are weeks when I struggle to come up with much of a Thankful list, and others when items easily flow from my heart. I started doing this list every week to reminder myself that in spite of struggles and rough times, there are always things to be thankful for. It has become a discipline for me. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am thankful on other days too, but this is my time to focus on and write about those blessings that God has brought my way.

So today I am thankful for:
*Safety through the storm
*Daughters with very different personalities
*My computer
*New blogging friends
*This site, which is new to me and so much fun!
*The young Chaplains entering Army ministry that my           husband gets to mentor
*This book that I’m reading (Review coming when I finish it!)
*The incredible faithfulness of God
*Pretty and warm skirts
*The ability God gives to learn through struggle
*A husband who enjoys my cooking…such as it is
*The friend who, 8 years ago, encouraged me to home school and answered all 2 million of my questions (and remains my friend to this day!)
*Free coffee from Starbucks
*Our day off yesterday
*Examples in Scripture of very ordinary people used by an extraordinary God

That last one has been on my mind quite a bit over the last couple of days because I’ve felt very ordinary for a long time. When I realized that the stories of people who changed the world around them came from the fact of WHO they served and wasn’t based on them, it revolutionized my thinking. Those people were not necessarily great in and of themselves, but they served a great God who chose to work through them. Anything great I might accomplish in this life will not be because of my abilities or strength, but because I am open to be used by an amazing God.

Are you struggling to accomplish something in your own strength? Have you slipped into the thinking that God will use you when you’ve reached a certain level of ability or perfection? I think we all need a reminder from time to time that it’s not about us, it’s all about Him.  I know I do.

I hope you can find something to be thankful for this day.

Your lists are always terrific. We all should take time out to remember all those things we have to be thankful for!

I love this list. I especially love the last part of this blog about how God uses ordinary people. It's so encouraging to know He works according to His good pleasure and it doesn't matter if we "fall short" because He never does. Thank you!

God's faithfulness is a sure thing. And without knowing Him personally I can only imagine how incredibily hard my life would be.
He is a constant, never changing and always there for me friend and I am grateful.
Blessings to you as you serve as wife, mother, and teacher to your family.
