Today I am joining Cherie at Heart and Soul Reflections for her link-up. She is doing a series on women who have had a positive influence on her life and has asked for stories from other bloggers about influences in their lives as well.
I thought I would use my normal Thankful Thursday post to talk about someone for whom I am very thankful and who has had, and continues to have, a big influence on my life. That woman would be my sister.
She and I are so very different. She is a fashionable, blond, athletic knockout and I am…so not that. She is on her way to her doctorate degree, she’s a college professor, a college ministry leader, and a deep, intellectual thinker who is also training her children to be very missions minded. SHE AMAZES ME!
But, in spite of our differences, she’s always been my biggest cheerleader (well, ever since we got past the whole little-girl-sibling-rivalry thing, which was a lot of years ago!)
She is the one who allows me to be myself and yet she subtly challenges me to be better, just by who she is as a person. I am not a deep thinker by nature. She gently pushes me to think beyond the surface. I tend to be too serious. She frequently reminds me that one can find humor in almost any situation.
When we talk (on the phone mostly, because we live so very many miles apart) she is honestly interested in my perspective, often because it is so different from hers. She has a knack for bringing to light varying aspects of a subject or situation that I had not considered.
She is most often the one I think of to call when I need to talk through something with another woman. She has a way of helping me work, step by step, through whatever it is I’m dealing with. Her spiritual vision and insight have helped me countless times when I couldn’t see my way clearly.
I love her with all my heart and I am so grateful that God gave her to me as a sister.
Your sister sounds like a very special lady … as you do, too. In fact, I wanted to let you know that I mention you (and others) in my latest post. Bess

My sister is my best friend, She is a person I am in awe of, always being able to find the brighter side, being able to make me laugh when I am crying, and her accomplishments are above and beyond anyone I know.I don't know who I would be without my sister.

Lisa, thank you so much for linking up today! My two girls are fighting constantly and I keep trying to tell them that one day they will be best friends!
Thanks for sharing today!

Unfortunately, my sis and I are opposites, too.
Sometimes we can be great friends, and other times not so much….

It sounds like you are incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful sister! I also have a great sister. Maybe I should write about her one day… 🙂
God Bless,
Shellie

This was such a sweet post. I bet your sister feels the same way about you!
I definately feel the same about you! I am humbly brought to tears over this post! I have known and felt your deep love and respect for me, but didn't really realize how much I had influenced you, because I have always seen you as the influencer, the one walking a little ahead, showing me how to navigate changes, challenges, and especially children. Thank you for the beautiful words of affirmation. You are an inspiration to me! I love you!

BTW – didn't know you had a blog here! I have one on this site, too, but haven't posted since 2006. It was about as successful as my Xanga. I really wish I was better at it. You're great at blogging!
