I am pleased to be able to share with you a book I recently read. One of the reasons I’m so excited is because the author of this book is a friend of mine!
Introducing Love’s Sacred Song
From the book:
Standing in the shadow of his famous father, young King Solomon wavers between fear and bravado, longing for a love that is true and pure–a love that can be his cornerstone.
A shepherdess in the northern city of Shunem, Arielah has known since she first laid eyes on Solomon that it was her destiny to become his bride. When her father secures a promise from Solomon to marry Arielah as a treaty bride to help unite the kingdom, it seems her dreams will come true.
But how can this simple shepherdess live as part of Solomon’s harem? Can Solomon set aside his distractions to give himself completely to just one woman? Or will he let duty, deception, and the daily routine divide his heart?
Mesu Andrews expertly weaves the words of the Song of Solomon into this touching story of the power of love from a master storyteller.
This book has 440 pages, and I read it in 3 days. It is that good.
Mesu Andrews has a way of bringing biblical characters to life that is both accurate and compelling. This is her second book. Her first, Love Amid the Ashes is a story focused on Job. Both books weave together excellent biblical scholarship with beautiful love stories.
Biblical fiction is probably my favorite genre, and Love’s Sacred Song has become a favorite within that category! I was fascinated by the glimpses into this time period in Israelite history, and impressed with the way in which Mesu uses the Song of Solomon as the foundation of the love story between Solomon and his beloved.
More than just the book, however, I want to introduce you to Mesu herself. She lives in Washington now, but before that she and her family lived here in Indiana. She and I were both wives of pastors within the Brethren church, and I had the privilege of getting to know her during that time. She is a delightfully humorous and insightful speaker and leader. For this review, I was able to ask her some questions about the book, and writing in general. I will give you the first question and answer now, and will finish the interview in a subsequent post. I hope you enjoy getting to know her!
Stay tuned for part two!
(I was given a copy of Love’s Sacred Song from Revell for the purposes of review, but the opinions are all mine.)
