I vividly remember my first time sponsoring a child.
I was a college student and I was attending a Christian music festival. I had just purchased a sweatshirt when I entered the venue for one of the numerous concerts that day. Before the concert started, someone stood up and talked about the ministry of Compassion International and made a plea for sponsors. I was moved and convicted. I had just spent the same amount of money on an item of (unnecessary) clothing as it cost to bless a child in poverty with physical, spiritual, and educational help for an entire month.
I signed up to be a sponsor for a little girl in Mexico.
So why do I tell you that story?
During the month of September, Compassion is aiming at gaining sponsors for 3,108 children and bloggers are helping them accomplish that goal. Why 3,108? Because they are hoping to surpass any previous September in sponsorships through the internet.
So each Wednesday during the month of September, I will be writing for and about Compassion.
What am I asking of you today?
Simple, really. Will you please click over and visit the Sponsor a Child page? I know you may not be ready to, or at a point where you can, become a sponsor, but there are still several reasons for going to visit:
- Find out more about what being a sponsor entails
- Pray for children whose pictures are posted there
- Use it as a learning opportunity for your kids (or yourself) to discover new things about children around the world
- You are interested in becoming a Compassion blogger
- (Ok, so this one is selfish) I just might win a prize if lots of people visit from my blog
Of course, the ultimate goal is that, like I was, you will be moved and convicted and choose to make an inestimable difference in a child’s life starting this month.
Won’t you please help? Visit the Sponsor a Child page to find out more! Thanks in advance.
